Instruction Control Unit

Definition : The component of the processing unit that fetches instructions from memory.

The instruction control unit or control unit works works by fetching instructions from memory, decoding coding it, executing and then storing the results. The functions that will executed ins encoded in the part of the instruction called the opcode. The data and location of storage is encoded in part of the instruction called the operand.
